Abstract:

During the flight of a rotating missile or rocket under an angle of attack aerodynamic forces develop which are directed normal to the plane of the angle of attack, i.e., the so-called Magnus effect is displayed. The presence of lateral forces leads to the deviation of the missile from the assigned direction. For the calculation of flight trajectory it is necessary to know the magnitude of Magnus force and the point of its application. The report presents experimental data relative to the Magnus effect.
