Certain goodness-of-fit tests involve transformations to produce a set of values which should be uniformly distributed when the null hypothesis is true. When it is not true, it is generally assumed that a test for uniformity of the final observations will give large values of the Kolmogorov or similar test statistics. This is not however always correct the final observations may turn out to be very evenly spaced. The paper illustrates such situations, and gives tastes of the lower tail of the Kolmogorov statistic and a closely-related statistic, for use in tests in the situation described. Author
