The purpose of the research is the development of a low cost air electrode for medium temperature 130C immobilized phosphoric acid matrix fuel cell. For this report the performance goal was 100 mAsq cm at 0.6 v terminal voltage for 1500 hours with 1-2 mg Ptsq cm. To achieve this a study of the various cell and electrode polarization components was made to find the limiting parameters. Screening of commercially available inexpensive support materials was continued. Different active carbon materials were tested as catalyst carriers. New electrode manufacturing techniques were investigated because it was found that catalyst distribution and the layering of the support material with active carbon needed more attention.
