During 11-21 November 1972 a wastewater treatment evaluation and biological field study was performed at Vandenberg AFB, CA by the USAF Environmental Health Laboratory, Kelly AFB, TX. The purpose of this field survey was to obtain data and prepare a report as outlined in the California Water Quality Control Plan. The wastewater treatment plant was found to provide good treatment on an average daily flow of 1.3 MGD of moderate strength domestic sewage containing a small amount of industrial waste. A source control program is outlined with emphasis on industrial waste sources. The operation and performance of the wastewater treatment plant are analyzed and presented in the format of the Guidelines of the California Water Quality Control Plan. The ocean receiving waters were studied in an abridged fashion after the California Plan due to the limited toxicity found in the effluent of the wastewater treatment plant and because of the hazardous nature of the outfall location in the surf zone. An outline of a monitoring program designed to fulfill the objectives of the California Plan is attached as an appendix to this report. Modified author abstract
