Localization of Strain in a Deforming Sheet.

It is found that deformation can start either as plane-strain flow at a local weakness, or as simultaneous yielding in this region and the remainder of the sheet. A third deformation mode, which is not included in the above analysis, occurs when the imposed stress state is that of plane strain. A discussion and equations describing this behavior are also included. The necessity of considering the metallurgical behavior and its influence on the mechanical properties used in the analysis is discussed. Author
