An apparatus was developed to provide a tool for job performance aids JPA research. Designers of JPAs have found relatively little research data to assist in deciding whether one type of aiding technique or another is better for particular tasks being aided. To answer questions about relative effectiveness of presentation techniques, a programmable psychomotor task simulator was developed for collecting performance data on operators and maintainers of equipment. The apparatus described consists of an array of operator-maintainer controls and displays, programmable logic circuitry, logic art display power circuitry, experimenter controls, test subject decision controls, and an event recorder.
