An investigation was made of all techniques and phenomena for environmentally degrading plastic materials materials which lend themselves to these techniques sources for degradable materials and their costs. In addition, both the general and specific restraints and potentials of these materials in an antitank mine training device were explored. At the present time February 1973 only one degradable material, a photodegradable polystyrene, is commercially available in this country. It is likely that all of the training devices specifications could be met with any one or any combination of degradable materials. Licenses are signed and commercial supplies of polystyrene, polyethylene, and polybutene should be available in the near future. Author modified-PL
