The general theme of the research is the development of methodology to bridge the gap between computer-oriented quantitative methods and the needs of system designers and decision-makers faced with systems of significant complexity. Two major areas are emphasized in this research General means for the development of efficient but accurate models, by repro-modeling a complex model or by the creation of empirical models The optimization of strategy or system design with respect to multiple criteria. Research results in these areas are outlined, particularly multivariate, nonlinear data-analytic techniques required by both problems.
