Efflux of arabinose and fucose from yeast cells occurred at more than one rate indicating that these sugars enter an intracell compartment efflux of dimethylsulfoxide was unaffected by the compartment. All three compounds were bound by the cells when glucose was available in uptake suspensions. Counterflow measurements indicated that binding occurred independently of sugar restrictions by the compartment. Binding was prevented by IAA, an energy inhibitor, but not by cycloheximide. Author
