The presence or absence of a distinct seasonally subdominate climatic regime along the midlatitude coast of Chile was determined through analyses of the temporal variation and relative influence of planetary scale atmospheric featues of the general circulation of the Southern Hemisphere. The objective of the report is to validate an aspect of the classifiction of coastal climates of the Americas and to establish the role of the general circulation of the atmosphere in the differentiation of climate of the west coasts of the Americas. Departures from hemispheric symmetry in the distribution of coastal climate are documented. Author
