Abstract:
The report presents a brief summary of the swirl research done at the University of Minnesota up to the present and retails the characteristics of a new apparatus under construction and evaluation since July, 1970. The purpose of this apparatus is to study turbulent transport properties in non-decaying, swirling, annular vortex flows. By generating fully-developed, axial and tangential velocity profiles, coupled with fully developed temperature profiles, using an adiabatic, rotating inner wall and a stationary constant-heat-flux, outer wall, experimental values of the eddy diffusivities for momentum and heat were obtained. These transport coefficients are found to be influenced differently by the swirl distribution. Modified author abstract
