The National Conference, Materials and Design Considerations for the Attachment of Prostheses to the Musculo-Skeletal System, was held at Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina, on April 3-7, 1972. The symposium was sponsored by the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies, College of Engineering, Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina Office of Naval Research, Washington, D. C. and the National Science Foundation, Washington, D. C. Forty-five papers were presented at the symposium. Appendix I contains the complete technical program. Twenty-six of the papers will appear in a special issue of the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research. Papers to be published in the Journal are listed in Appendix II. Some highlights of the symposium are briefly summarized.
