Abstract:
The research was conducted to design, develop, fabricate, and establish operational feasibility of a gamma-ray spectrometer system for use in a nuclear radiation research program. Application requirements specified a man- portable, self-powered instrument for remote field data collection of gamma-ray spectra. High resolution of gamma-ray energy was of primary importance. The system was assembled using an intrinsic germanium detector in conjunction with essentially off-the-shelf, commercially available devices. The units were laboratory-tested and operational feasibility was demonstrated as most of the performance design goals were attained.
