Abstract:

Formulation and application of a three-dimensional compressible turbulent boundary-layer analysis is presented for subsonic and transonic flow over a yawed airfoil of infinite extent. The governing turbulent boundary-layer equations are integrated using an implicit finite-difference procedure in conjunction with a scalar eddy viscosity model of three-dimensional turbulence. Comparisons with other analysis techniques as well as experimental measurements under subsonic wind tunnel conditions are presented to establish and ascertain the basic validity and applicability of the current technique. Also considered are the effects of a hot wall on the transonic, three-dimensional, turbulent boundary layer which have practical application to transonic space shuttle reentry.
