The need for a high Reynolds number transonic wind tunnel HIRT has been recognized throughout the industry for some years. The proposed HIRT facility at Arnold Engineering Development Center will provide a much needed tool for the study of phenomena sensitive to Reynolds number. The usefulness of the HIRT facility will be largely influenced by the ability of industry to design and build wind-tunnel models for an acceptable cost capable of operating within the severe environment of the tunnel. The object of this study is to determine the feasibility of designing and building models capable of withstanding the loads and environmental conditions of the facility. The aircraft configurations chosen for study cover a wide spectrum of flight conditions.
