Abstract:
The report discusses approaches to the measurement of interpersonal impact, and identifies analysis components, to include stimulus material, both self and others, and the situational context within which they interact interpretation by observers who judge the interactions and response measures obtained from these judges. Establishing formally defined, regular relationships among these components provides focus for the observation process. The need for observation and analysis by independent samples of judges is pointed out. The behavior segment, as a construct, and the process of qualitative descriptor analysis are described. Implications for research and experimental design, including the measurement of facial expressions, techniques for recording interpersonal interaction data, and effectiveness determination, are discussed. And finally, a focus for human relations impact research is proposed and discussed. Author
