Abstract:

The work of the laboratory for the past year is very briefly summarized under four headings Spontaneous scattering in which sound speeds and relaxation effects in gases and polymers are investigated Stimulated Rayleigh wing scattering in which the effect of absorption upon the observed frequency shifts in nitrobenzene is investigated Computer solutions have been prepared to predict the thicknesses of thin film coatings as a function of index of refraction and the angle of incidence for which a coated beam-splitter will not effect the polarization of a beam, and, to predict the spectral reflectance of a large number of layers of alternate Hg and SiO films The emission spectrum of CO from a plasma tube has been observed in electronic bands but the infrared emission is not yet observable.
