Some Regularities in the Propagation of Perturbations of a Discrete Tone in a Free Supersonic Jet,
FOREIGN TECHNOLOGY DIV WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB OHIO
Pagination or Media Count:
Small perturbations, being propagated along a jet, experience a discontinuity on the boundaries of the cells which causes the emanation of sound into the surrounding space. The sound perturbations, reaching the section of the nozzle, in turn engender new perturbations in the jet. Thus, a self-oscillating process is established. The frequency of the discrete tone depends on the speed of sound in surrounding space, the dimensions of the cell, and the rate of propagation of the perturbations in the jet. The works which are presented are devoted to a study of various parts of the structure of the acoustic field of the jet.
