The effort was primarily to synthesize and characterize new perchloro-aromatic compounds and related substances. A total of 185 new compounds and synthesis techniques are described. Types of new materials synthesized include Inert and transient chlorocarbon free radicals Perchloropolyarylmethyl ions Perchloroaromatic polymers with and without functional groups such as ester and amide Perchlorinated phenals and phenalic ethers and, Nitrogen poly- and perchloroaromatic compounds. Anomalous reactions of highly chlorinated and perchlorinated hydrocarbons and ketones with triphenylphosphine were studied. Author
