The report discusses a completed study of the adsorption and decomposition of CO on a Pt111 surface by Auger electron spectrometric AES and electron-induced desorption EID techniques. CO was found to adsorb on the clean surface by first-order Langmuirian kinetics. Adsorbed carbon produced by electron-induced decomposition of adsorbed CO poisoned the adsorption process. The kinetics of this process have been determined from AES and EID studies. A continuing study of gas adsorption on Fe110 is also discussed. The experimental techniques being used, plan of attack and results to date are presented. Modified author abstract
