Thirty propositions dealing with the nature of leadership and organizational effectiveness are derived from general systems theory. The first set of propositions deals with the nature of organizational processes and their relationship to leadership acts. The various components of process structure, including leadership acts, compensate for each others appropriateness in coping with environmental variety. A complex adaptive system copes more effectively when its internal processes are structured so as to constitute an appropriate match with the nature of its environment.
