Valves from a frozen diesel engine in a military truck, were obtained and the deposit on these valves analyzed. The material was composed of carbonaceous residue 50 to 55.7, liquid hydrocarbon fraction 32 to 38, and ash producing material 9 to 13. The deposit was probably caused by incomplete combustion of the fuel and lubricating oil used in this vehicle. Author
