Abstract:

The optimal selection of the design of a supporting structure from a finite set of variants is examined as a strategic game between the designer and nature, in which the loss of the latter is minimized. Determining the optimal feasibility of individual designs reduces to a solution of the problem of linear programming, which is accomplished on an electronic computer.
