Abstract:

A number of homing guidance laws, designed using principles of modern stochastic control theory, are compared using a recently developed analytical technique CADET for propagating the statistics of nonlinear, randomly excited systems. The guidance laws include proportional guidance, optimal linear guidance, and optimal nonlinear guidance. Each law is evaluated in a realistic nonlinear model of the missile guidance system and the homing geometry. This work provides a direct comparative evaluation of several important guidance techniques, and extends the usefulness of CADET for analyzing nonlinear guidance systems.
