The interaction between acoustic phonons and tunneling states of defects in solids has been studied in KClLi by means of two techniques phonon generation through resonant pumping of the tunneling states with microwaves, and scattering of heat pulses by the tunneling states. Both techniques provide information on the selection rules and defect-lattice coupling mechanisms. The frequency spectrum of the microwave-generated phonons can also provide information on resonance fluorescence phenoman in solids. Author
