Destroyer DD operating intensity, as measured by time underway and fuel consumed underway, was compared with maintenance man-hour comsumption at the organizational and intermediate level, in man-hoursmonth. No correlations were found between either measure of intensity and maintenance expenditures. Wide variations in both time underway none to the complete month and maintenance man-hour consumption none to over 7,000 man-hours per month were found on a month-to-month basis however, long-term averages time between overhauls showed smaller variations in time underway to about 400 hoursmonth and maintenance man-hour consumption 500 to about 2,200 man-hoursmonth. The data consisted of the records of 171 DDs from April 1966 through March 1969. Author
