Abstract:
The flow of a viscous fluid in the ringspace between two infinitely long coaxial cylinders the outer one oscillating in the axial direction and the inner one rotating with a constant angular velocity is subjected to a linear stability analysis. An oscillating Taylor-vortex flow is seen to arise when the Reynolds-number reaches a critical value for the steady Couette-flow.
