Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to examine the alternatives available to Japan in the execution of a foreign diplomacy appropriate with the age of multipolarity. The current status of Japans economic, military, and political strength were examined as well as the external factors which will have a major influence on Japans future courses of action. Of these factors, the most important is the American alliance which always had many elements of discord, but is now severely strained, primarily, over economic problems and Japans desire for greater independence in its foreign diplomacy.
