Abstract:
The study is a preliminary investigation of man-machine interaction in situations where a decision maker has available to him a computer aid. A differentiation is made between aids which perform a staff function and those which are intended to be surrogate decision makers. An experiment was conducted to determine the utilization of a computer aid modeled on the staff concept in a simple prediction task. The subjects experience with the aid was manipulated, some receiving initially accurate estimates from the aid and others receiving initially inaccurate estimates. A report is made on the results.
