Abstract:
The research described here was directed towards evaluating the current finite element model for jointed rocks in the context of the Piledriver experiment. The report presents a comprehensive case history of finite element application and parameter evaluation for Piledriver addresses CR1 and BR12. These tunnel sections were selected to examine variation of tunnel size while most other design features remained fixed. The degree of stability of different cases studied was revealed by the changes in displacements in successive iterations. In stable cases, tunnel displacements converged towards a final value whereas in unstable cases divergent behavior was experienced. Modified author abstract
