Abstract:

A study is offered concerning the current data processing facilities available to general staff officers of tactical field commands, with special emphasis on support available to the G4. An analysis is made of the completeness of the reporting services in several logistic support areas - supply, transportation, and construction. Further, an examination is made of the integration of combat service support data with other data supplied to the Tactical Operations System. The present status of management information systems in private enterprise is discussed. Proposals are also suggested for better use of data processing by high level management, both in the Army and in industry. Finally, comments are made concerning shortcomings in two major areas which may deny the tactical field command a management information system in the near future. Author
