International Logistics: The Growth and Future of Foreign Military Sales.
ARMY WAR COLL CARLISLE BARRACKS PA
Pagination or Media Count:
The essay provides an overview of the evolution of Foreign Military Sales and examines the program within the context of the current international logistics support. The Nixon Doctrine, recent trends, competition, foreign attitudes, and Congressional attitudes are examined to assess their impact on the future of the Foreign Military Sales Program. Data was gathered using a literature search and through discussions with US and Allied officers attending USACGSC. The inherent advantages of the Foreign Military Sales Program, supported by recent trends and the Nixon Doctrine, attest to the viability of the program in the future. The eroding competitive position of the US, together with unfavorable foreign attitudes and Congressional dissatisfaction, suggest a need for study and alteration of institutional arrangements to improve the program.
