Abstract:
The report describes the results of an experimental research program which was conducted to assess the effects of mass injection of the tip vortex on airfoil performance in transonic flow. Balance data and Schlieren photographs were taken for a rectangular semispan model with a full-span aspect ratio of 7.35 in the Mach number range M 0.553 to 1.0. Schlieren photographs of the compressible flow field indicated that the near field flow characteristics of the airfoil were not influenced by mass injection or by passive nozzle characteristics at transonic speeds.
