Abstract:
A facility with two low-impedance water dielectric coaxial pulse line electron accelerators has been constructed. The coaxial pulse lines are water filled and synchronized for operation to within plus or minus 2 ns. A beam transport system, with the capability of magnetic compression system is used to drift and merge the two electron beams. High current density j 30 kAcm squared beams have been transported over distances of 1.3 m with transport efficiencies in excess of 80 percent. Compression ratio of 2 - 51 have been achieved, and current densities in the 50 - 100 kAcm squared range are confirmed by carbon calorimeter and radiation measurements. Author
