Abstract:
A need developed for accurate recording of total daily solar irradiance at remote locations. Heretofore, stripchart recordings of solar flux made at accessible locations were subsequently integrated graphically to render total irradiance. Ultimate accuracy was limited by recorder accuracy and the human error introduced during integration. This report describes a digital integrator which accepts the analogue output of a pyranometer and delivers output current to drive a stripchart recorder pen. Recording and integration errors are greatly reduced. Moreover, power consumption is low enough to make several months unattended recording of a pyranometer or other device a practical consideration.
