Abstract:

The report describes MODIA, a comprehensive methodology for designing a systematic instructional process encompassing the mix of instructors, facilities, materials, and students, and the processes by which all of these elements work together to effect student mastery of specified subject matter. MODIA consists of an 8-step sequence of procedures and semiautomated tools that allows an instructional designer to examine many alternative structural approaches before he puts an actual system into use. He can rapidly plan a program for a particular approach and--still at the planning stage--assess its utility in terms of production of graduates or consumption of human and material resources. If the program is unacceptable on one of these counts, the planner may quickly construct and assess an alternative approach.
