Abstract:

Investigations are concerned with the phenomena associated with the heating of small diameter wires immersed in superfluid liquid helium. Experimental results are presented relating to the critical heat currents associated with the appearance and disappearance of stable vapor films surrounding heated wires. These experiments were carried out at helium bath temperatures between 1.4K and 2.18K. Variation of the critical wattages with fluid pressure and temperature were ovserved. The results of measurements performed at temperatures below 1K are described. Author Modified Abstract
