Abstract:

The United States Army Tropic Test Center made anthropometric measurements of a sample of Latin-American enlisted military personnel in the Canal Zone from September 1965 to February 1970. A total of 1985 trainees were measured--1852 airmen at the USAF Inter-American Air Forces Academy and 133 army personnel at the US Army School of the Americas. Fifteen Latin-American countries are represented in the sample. The average age for the sample was 23 years, average height was 5 feet, 5 12 inches, and average weight was 141 pounds. Percentiles and ranges for 75 physical measurements are presented, including isometric strength and hand-grip measures. Country-by-country comparisons are also presented. In addition, 1790 ABO blood group types are presented by country.
