The Observed Fire Trainer is a classroom device used to teach observed fire procedures under highly realistic circumstances. The trainee views an 800 mil wide projected image and uses standard maps and binoculars to acquire and correct fire. A small computer positions the bursts realistically. The report details the photo-optical design of the projector used to display the image. The requirements for screen illumination, resolution for binocular viewing, and the proper perspective are given. The design of the optical and photographic systems is given in sufficient detail for a person skilled in the art, to duplicate the projector. All designs were reduced to hardware and the tested results given. Author
