In the future, thermal protection of hypersonic flight leading edges may require using active transpiration cooling systems. To meet the space restriction placed on such systems by low drag requirements, a compact-plenum transpiration cooling system has been proposed. In the preliminary design of such a system parametric studies are required to determine the most effective flow control devices, porous matrix geometry, porosity, etc. To aid in this study, the IBM 36091 PL1 Compact Transpiration Cooling CTC computer program has been written. CTC computes transient temperatures, pressures, and mass-flow rates throughout the system from given aerodynamic flight data, transpirant flow rate, leading-edge geometry, and matrix porosity. This report is intended to provide the prospective user of CTC with an understanding of the ingredients of its subroutines as well as provide specific instructions for preparing a CTC Main program and interpreting its printout.
