Abstract:

The report deals with the mathematical theory of combat in various aspects. Chapter 1 is an introduction and summary, Chapter 2 deals with measures of effectiveness, Chapter 3 provides a general mathematical basis for the Lanchester philosophy of combat, Chapter 4 develops a number of special Lanchester models, and Chapter 5 contains some suggestions for improvements in the TARTARUS IV model. The mathematics used draws on the theory of abstract vector spaces and functional analysis. Author
