Abstract:

The book, based on a symposium held at the University of Kentucky, October 18-20, 1971, seeks to improve communication between instrument designers and the researchers who use these instruments in cardiovascular research. It brings together previously scattered information on new techniques as well as improvements in existing techniques. The book is divided into five main sections--Significance of Chronically Implanted Cardiovascular Instrumentation, Transducer Selection and Properties, Implantation Techniques, Signal Processing, and Future Developments. Subjects are discussed from a practical rather than a theoretical standpoint and will be readily understood by anyone active in the field as well as those with only a peripheral acquaintance with the subject. The contributors are all active and widely published researchers.
