Abstract:
The Federal Aviation Administration FAA is sponsoring a program at the Naval Research Laboratory to investigate the effects of polar cap absorption events PCA, and other propagation anomalies, on the Omega Navigation System when used in the high latitude regions. There is interest by FAA in this area because of the so-called polar routes of the commercial air lines. Preliminary results presented show the effects of two PCA events. One of these produced a phase advance of 50 CELS for the 10.2 kHz Norway-Hawaii transmissions as received in Washington, D.C. Author Modified Abstract
