Abstract:

In the report a numerical solution of the impact phase during vertical water-entry of a finite cone is presented. The hydrodynamic code, MACWET, which calculates the solutions, utilizes an extension of the marker and cell method. The following examples are included 1 a constant velocity cylinder impacting at 131 ftsec. 2 a three inch radius, 90 degrees steel cone falling from rest with its vertex barely submerged in the water 3 a three inch, 90 degrees steel cone impacting at 131 ftsec. and 4 a 136 lb., nine inch, 90 degrees cone impacting at 40 ftsec. The code is not limited to 90 degrees cones. The numerical results are compared with available experimental data. Author
