HEL-TM-7-73target discrimination, performancehuman, aerial reconnaissance, surface targets, flight testing, performancehuman, human factors engineering, statistical analysisA flight experiment was performed to determine the effect of the observers position in a helicopter on his ability to detect ordnance targets. The positions tested were left seat, front seat and rear seat. The 34 U. S. Army pilot subjects each flew two trial flights in opposite directions over a three-leg course at Coso Military Target Range, Naval Weapons Center, China Lake, California.
