Data from an earlier study UTILITY provided information on the roles of growth and selection in the relatively better job performance by experienced men in four Army jobs armor crewmen, general vehicle repairmen, supply specialists, and cooks. The analysis involved the comparison of job sample test scores of inexperienced men at the time of the prior study who subsequently remained in the Army, a comparable group of inexperienced men who subsequently left the Army, and the experienced men who had been in their jobs at least 30 months at the time of the prior study.
