The report describes some of the advances in the design and performance of stable gas lasers. The construction and output characteristics of highly reproducible, stable, selectable single transition grating-controlled CO2 and CO lasers are described. Experiments on short-term stability, standing wave saturation resonances, pressure and power broadening, pressure shift and long-term stabilization of CO2 lasers are discussed.
