Abstract:
An exploratory study was conducted to 1 identify the ways first-term enlisted personnel use Navy media and Navy retention communications within the larger context of reenlistment decision-making 2 make a preliminary evaluation of the effectiveness of the Navy retention communications campaign in fulfilling the information requirements of first-term enlisted men facing reenlistmentseparation decisions 3 develop tentative suggestions for modifying information programs to provide first-term enlisted men with optimum information on which to base reenlistment decisions and 4 provide empirical data and methodological experience necessary to design a full-scale study of information requirements for reenlistment decision-making in the Navy and the role of the retention communications effort.
