Abstract:
An effort was made to resolve the conflict in the literature with respect to the blood sugar and insulin response in dogs and other animals in response to shock. It was found that indeed a species difference exists. An abstract describing the findings is enclosed. In addition, a study was completed evaluating the effect of fresh versus stored blood on the lung of animals resuscitated after severe shock. A third study to determine the free fatty acid, triglyceride growth hormone and glucagon response of swine to shock was completed. Results of a fourth study comparing venous and arterial lactate are also summarized. Author Modified Abstract
