Acoustic emission has been monitored during the ambient temperature tensile deformation of directionally solidified Al-CuAl2. Attention was directed to the effect of microstructure in that a range of structures was examined ranging from lamellar to spheroidized coarsening was promoted by elevated temperature exposure at temperatures up to 0.98T eutectic for times up to 100 hours 360 ks.
